     John Griswold was baptized on 1 August 1652 in Windsor, Hartford Co., Conn.. He was the son of Mr. Edward Griswold and Margaret (__?__). He married (1), at age 20, Mary Bemis (the daughter of his stepmother), daughter of James Bemis and Sarah Dimond, on 28 November 1672 in Killingworth, Middlesex Co, Conn.. He married (2) Bathsheba North, daughter of Thomas North and Mary Price, circa 1681. He died on 7 August 1717 in Killingworth, Middlesex Co, Conn., at age 65.

     Sarah Dimond was the daughter of John Dimond and Rebecca Bemis. She married (1) James Bemis. She married (2) Mr. Edward Griswold, son of George Griswold and Dousabel Leigh, before 25 December 1672; (widow of James Bemis).¹
     

Widow of James Bemis who was constable of New London and died in 1665. Their daughter married John, youngest son of Edward Griswold and his first wife Margaret.

     Mary Bemis was born. She was the daughter of James Bemis and Sarah Dimond. She married John Griswold, age 20, son of Mr. Edward Griswold and Margaret (__?__), on 28 November 1672 in Killingworth, Middlesex Co, Conn.; (the daughter of his stepmother). She died on 27 October 1679.

     Roger married an unknown wife about 1568-9. He had at least three sons and was dead by 1605. A land dispute record concerning fields named Broomfields, about 1607, names William as the father of Roger, then deceased. The same record establishes the probable birth-order of his sons.

     The English Griswolds were an ancient county family established at Solihull, in Warwickshire, prior to the year 1400. This family had a pedigree and were entitled to a coat-of-arms, "Arg., a fesse Gu., betw two greyhounds current Sa". They traced their descent from a certain John Greswold, who, about the middle of the 14'th century, came from Kenilworth and married the daughter and heiress of Henry Hughford of Huddersly Hall, in Solihull; and , in Burke's Landed Gentry, they are styled the Greswolds of Kenilworth and Solihull.
     William is the first progenitor of which we can be sure of for the New England emmigrants, Edward and Matthew Griswold.

He married, at age 24, Sarah Pinney, age 22, daughter of Nathaniel Pinney and Sarah Griswold, on 13 February 1695/96 in Windsor, Hartford Co., Conn.. He died circa 1726 in Windsor, Hartford Co., Conn..
