Dates on this family are extracted from the Parish Registers of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Little Baddow, Co. Essex 1559-1660.

Thomas Vessey, yeoman, was probably born in the neighborhood of 1530. He was probably still living at the time of his daughter Sible's marriage in 1587, or else she would not have been styled "the daughter of Thomas Vessey" in the Parish Register. The date of his death and the name of his wife are not known at present.

Relationship=11th great-grandfather of Norbert Raymond Bankert.

John Porter was born circa 1560 in Little Baddow, co. Essex, England.1 He married Sybil Vessey, age 25, daughter of Thomas Vessey, on 12 September 1587 in the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Little Baddow, co. Essex, England.2 He died between May 1623 and November 1625 in Felsted, co. Essex, England.1

None of the children of John and Sybil appear to have been baptized at Little Baddow, so the Porters must have left that parish soon after their marriage. Where they lived between 1587 and 1593 is still unknown, though presumably they did not leave Essex. In 1593 they are located in Felsted, co. Essex when their daughter Margaret is baptized. The Porters probably continued to live in Felsted for the next 30 years.
In 1615, John Porter, probably the same, was named executor in the will of Thomas Brett of Bromfield and Terling, co. Essex. Thomas called John a cousin, he was also an uncle of William Pynchon, the founder of Springfield, MA.

Relationship=9th great-grandfather of Norbert Raymond Bankert.

John Moses was born probably in Wales. He died on 22 April 1688 in Plymouth, Plymouth Co., Mass..1

Immigration: before 1640, when he is found in Duxbury, Massachusetts.
Religion/Church: Leaned towards the English Anglican church.
Occupation: Shipwright.

Said to be of Wales, our first record of John Moses is found in a lawsuit in the summer of 1641. John Moses, shipwright of Duxbury, had built a pinnace "thirty-foote by the keele and five foote and halfe in the hould deepe" on contract for Thomas Keyser and John Guy of Lynn. The pinnace was to be completed in August of 1640, however, the defendants failed to provide finishing materials as promised and Johns attempts to have them fulfill their end of the contract failed. John eventually sold the pinnace to Captain Edward Gibbons. His loss on venture amounted to 19£ 19s 11d.
The "Colony Records of Plymouth" show that John Moses and Thomas Clarke received a verdict of "acquittal" in 1652 for the charge of "staying and drinking at James Coles' contrary to the order of the Court." In 1653 John was one of three surveyors appointed by Plymouth. In 1660 he served on a jury "conserning the sudden death of James Peirse of Boston" which found the death was caused by "thunder and lightning in a boate". In 1661 John was fined 10 shillings "for being drunke the second time". The last mention of John Moses in the "Colony Records" is again in 1661 when he served on another jury inquiring into a sudden death.

Plymouth records show John Moses d. 22 Apr 1688. Is this our John Moses?2
